Words of Encouragement from Faith & Hope - Episode #2 - Red Shoes

  1. During Beth Moore’s lesson on Tuesday night, I was reminded of an occasion when the simplicity and faith of a child was the peace and hope I received during a stressful time in my life. During this time our family had just relocated to another military base in the Pacific. The moving company had just left and I was surrounded by a sea of boxes and had just set the dining room table on four of these boxes because I couldn’t find the legs to the table yet. My son Nate, who was 7 at the time, was at this makeshift table busy eating his snack before bedtime stories and nighttime hugs. On US military bases all across this world you will hear the bugle sound in the morning to announce the National Anthem and all will pay respect to the raising of the American flag. Everyone will stop where they are, whether walking or driving a vehicle, and stand at attention until the flag has been raised. Some will even get out of their cars and stand in the middle of the road out of respect for the country they serve. In the evening the bugle will sound again and Taps will be played over a loud speaker as our flag will come down to rest yet another night. I had just put the baby to bed and was in the kitchen talking with my teenager when the bugle began to sound and play Taps as the sun was setting in the west. All of a sudden Nate jumped away from the table and ran out the door to the front yard and watched with anxious anticipation towards the sky. “Where is He, where is He”, Nate said. “Where is who”, I said in confusion. “Jesus, mommy. I heard the trumpets sound, where is He”. My 7 year old was ready, but where was I. I pray that through this study we will all learn to enthusiastically await the return of our Lord. I pray that while we are still on this earth awaiting such an awesome event, that we will not let the stresses and worries of this world be a deterrent that keep us from experiencing the hope and peace of that day. I pray that our hearts will be full of anticipation and that each day we can learn to love and live life on this earth as our precious Lord had intended for us until the day we will be joined with Him in heaven. Blessings to you sisters, I look forward to this journey with you and am thanking our precious God for this study right now. Marie

  2. Marie, thank you for sharing such a precious challenge with us! Wow! God often uses my children to challenge my faith. Last night we were going through our "tucking in ceremonies" and Kirsten says with her little eyebrows way up and a grin on her face, "I'll see you tomorrow morning, but if not, I'll see you in Heaven!" Teach us, Lord, and help us teach our children to "long for a better country - a heavenly one" cause there's no place like Home!
